La Chambre's name is a reference to the old box-shaped camera, which contained a glass plate on which the negative image was printed. Hence the expression ‘it's in the box’. Even today, photography functions as a sounding board for the world. But far from capturing extracts to keep as museum specimens, photography as envisaged by La Chambre is a dialogue, a circulation of ideas, an opening into time, space and human relationships.
