Room 302

Artist : STEW

My room is based on the Japanese erotic art
form known as Shunga.

In this room, my hope is that couples will work on values that enhance their relationship like… sex!…
and find pleasure in erotic games
(though you don’t have to take it too far).

Go ahead and spin the kamasutra wheel. It’s like a wheel of fortune except that here everyone wins, all the time!

I was born in 1978 and grew up in the western suburbs of Paris. From a very early age, the street was my playground, on rollerblades or on my skateboard. Once I was old enough to ride the train in the mid-90’s, I discovered the world of graffiti where I have been engaged ever since. I often call myself an “infograffeur” or digital street artist. I spent lots of time on the computer in training as a graphic designer and it has enabled me to create something beyond traditional graffiti. As a result, the computer has become an integral step in my creative process. I spend a great deal of time in front of the screen.

But sometimes I have a problem reconciling my digital creations with art in the street. So I have tried using other techniques, like silkscreen, a craft that permits me to move away from pixel-based art; or collage that allows me to make complex montages of black and white prints; and stencils, first as patterns, then as figures, which now have a prominent place in my work because this is what has really created a bridge between my digital work and the graffiti. The great thing is that all these tools are useful and have a specific place; they are part of a whole.
